While all women will experience menopause, each will experience it in her own unique way. For many women the transition is an easy one. For others, menopause comes with some decidedly unpleasant side effects. Regardless of ease or difficulty during menopause, however, the risks of long term health problems (such as heart disease and osteoporosis) increase post-menopause.

 

 

What is Menopause?

Menopause is defined as the cessation of menstruation. Inherent in the true meaning of the word menopause is the concept of ovarian aging. As a woman gets chronologically older, her ovaries get physically older - literally used up.

What is Osteoporosis?

Primary osteoporosis is an age-related disorder characterized by decreased bone mass and by increased susceptibility to fractures in the absence of other recognizable causes of bone loss.
